Overview
Salt Creek has some of the best diving on the Strait of Juan De Fuca. With carpets of colorful sea urchins, Anemones, Starfish, Kelp Greenling, Cabezon, Rockfish, Lingcod, Octopus, Puget Sound Box Crab, and lots of others. This is another site that can be dived multiple times without seeing the same thing twice. Camping is available at Salt Creek so make a weekend of it. This area is highly affected by current so watch your current table or it can be done as a drift dive.
Getting There
Head west from Port Angeles on highway 101 to the highway 112 junction. Turn right onto highway 112. Proceed west on 112 until you see the signs for Salt Creek Recreation area about ////////////////miles from 101. Turn right and follow the road to Salt Creek, drive through the gate and there are several trails from the camping areas to the water. The easiest is located in the farthest west camping area near the end of the loop. Park by the sign and follow the stairs down to the water.
The Dive
Once you get to the waters edge, entry and exit are tricky if there is any wave action so be careful. Once in the water, head north until you reach your desired depth and enjoy! Don't forget to bring a camera as there are lots of terrific photo opportunities(i shoot digital and always take over 100 pics/dive here) |
